Can anyone beat or fool the Lie Detector Test?
Yes, just about anyone can beat the instrument BUT no one can beat both the the Operator and the Lie Detector Test.

The Lie Detector produces a chart, either scribed onto paper or electronically charted onto a computer, and that identifies reactions within the body.

If the subject bites his or her tongue, or moves in any of a variety of ways, the charts go haywire. The Polygraphist will then want to know why the person is deliberately spoiling the test which consists of agreed questions and answers.

How are the questions chosen and are there any surprises?
Every question and answer is agreed before the actual test takes place when the subject is connected to the instrument.

All Lie Detector Test questions are "closed" questions which can only be answered YES or NO. There will be a variety of questions ranging from "Is your name Whoever?" and "Are we in Wherever?" to much more important questions such as "Did you steal that money?" or "Did you kill that person?"

In other words, the "dangerous" or "important" questions are mixed up with the non-threatening questions and the subject knows when each question is coming as all question are repeated and verified several times before the actual Lie Detection test.

How long does a Lie Detection Test take?
At least an hour, usually longer. It depends on the complexity of the situation and the willingness and co-operation of the person being Lie Detection Tested.
